2024-25 Athletes of the Week, Part 8

Prunty, Schueth and Smutz represent their schools well

Posted

The busiest week of the fall sports season is here.
We’ve got state golf, state softball, district cross-county, and still more football and volleyball.
First, though, we’ve got our latest and greatest Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week — Allison Prunty, Jacy Schueth and Aspen Smutz — to acknowledge. Let’s get to it.

Allison Prunty, Fort Calhoun softball: The Pioneers are headed to their first-ever state softball tournament and this slugger certainly played her part, hammering three homers during the district finals. Altogether, the breakout senior standout has six hits, a triple, three homers and nine RBIs this postseason. Special mention goes to Tacey Belina, a recent Athlete of the Week honoree, who had four homers during the district finals. It also goes to Levi Lasher, who produced two touchdown runs against Omaha Concordia, and both Seth Waters and Chris Post-Whiteowl for leading the cross-country team with top-four finishes at the conference meet.

Jacy Schueth, Blair softball: The Bears’ catcher caught four Brooke Janning shutouts this past week as BHS earned its third-straight state qualification. The slugger packed an offensive punch all season for Blair, too, adding to it with her eighth home run of the year during the district finals. She had four RBIs during the subdistrict rounds as well, leading her team in that statistical category with 31 going into districts. Special mention goes to Janning as well as state-qualifying golfer Mackenzie Storjohann and setter Hailey Roewert, who helped lead BHS to a 2-1 Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament showing.

Aspen Smutz, Arlington golf: The Eagle led her team at districts and for most of the season. She carded 123 strokes at Oakland Golf Club on Monday after producing AHS’ season low — 94 strokes — earlier this season during the Elmwood-Murdock Invitational. Honorable mention goes to the usual suspects — seniors Hailey O’Daniel and Kolby Tighe — who earned conference titles in cross-country.

Thanks for reading and please wish us sports people well as we travel all about this week. I appreciate it.
