With the regular season schedule complete, Ralph Bishop League Tournament play started Saturday.
The Arlington Junior Legion baseball team opened at West Point, picking up a 12-7 victory against Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells. It was set to play Columbus Lakeview during the second round, too.
The Post 71 Seniors, meanwhile, were scheduled to start tourney play Sunday at home against the same opposition. First, though, it beat Ponca on June 26, 9-5. Blaine Vogt earned the road pitching victory, while Andy Misfeldt closed it out on the mound.
“Blaine had another great start and got a ground-rule double,” coach TJ Stosich said.
The Eagles broke a 2-2 tie with Ponca during a four-run top of the third inning. Misfeldt doubled first before Vogt walked and Tim Halley singled to loaded bases.
After a flyout, Arlington's Dallin Franzluebbers drew a run-scoring walk for the 3-2 advantage. Jackson Stosich, Luke Ott and Wes Monke picked up bases-loaded free bases, too, as the Seniors' lead reached 6-2.
Post 71 added to its lead during the fourth inning, too.
Vogt scored another run for a 7-2 advantage before Franzluebbers hit an RBI single. Stosich hit into a Ponca error to score the Eagles' ninth run.
The home team battled back with scores during the fifth and seventh innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome Arlington as it prepared for postseason tournament play. Both Ralph Bishop League brackets continue through July 6.
