The Arlington High School volleyball team was on its way to a first-set victory Tuesday at Shelby-Rising City.
Coach Erin Stosich's Eagles failed to close it out and, ultimately, lost 3-0 on the road. They fell to 3-6 overall with the 27-25, 25-23, 25-14 defeat.
AHS was ahead much of the first set and led 24-23 when the Huskies hit the ball outside of the lines. The road squad led at 25-24, too, when the home team hit the ball into the net, but the Eagles couldn't capitalize.
Shelby may have trailed much of the first, but it led the majority of the second set. At one point it was ahead 19-12 before Arlington's comeback.
Back-to-back Rylie Kyllo ace serves pulled the Eagles within 24-23, but her third offering went into the net short.
Jodi Jones notched an AHS ace and Layci Kucera produced a mid-set kill during the third, too, but the Huskies still wound up on top, finishing out their home sweep. They are 4-7 overall after Tuesday's match.
Arlington was scheduled to compete at Yutan on Thursday and next plays Saturday at the Stanton Invitational.
