The National High School Finals Rodeo begins Sunday in Rock Springs, Wyo.
Three cowgirls and a marksman with close Washington County ties will take part during the week-long event.
Arlington cowgirl Hailey O'Daniel and her schoolmate, Erika Cruikshank, have identical, unofficial draws in barrel racing and pole pending. Both open with barrels on Sunday at the Sweetwater Events Complex before their second-round performances July 20.
O'Daniel and Cruikshank will compete in the poles event on Tuesday and Thursday, too.
Laney Hoier of Herman, meanwhile, will make her goat-tying runs Monday and July 19. In-between, she'll compete in breakaway roping on Tuesday and Thursday.
Should they advance, the NHSFR short go-round finals performance is 7 p.m. July 20 followed by the awards presentation where short-go winners and world champions will be recognized.
Fort Calhoun's Morgan Shaner, however, will first compete next Thursday during the trapshooting competition at Sweetwater Trap Club. The top qualifiers will then compete in the short go-round July 19 at 8 a.m.
