Friday Football Update: Washington County teams go 2-1

Blair falls short in thriller, while AHS and FCHS pick up wins

Posted

Washington County high school football teams went 2-1 Friday night with the Fort Calhoun Pioneers moving to 2-0 overall.
FCHS routed Omaha Roncalli at home 42-6, while Arlington earned a 30-7 road win at Conestoga.
Like the Eagles, Blair is 1-1 after a 35-28 road loss at Lincoln Pius X.

Bears’ game comes down to final play
Blair quarterback Cooper Sorensen’s on-target last-second throw into the end zone fell incomplete Friday in Lincoln.
The Thunderbolts had tight coverage on the play, and won by seven after scoring the winning points with just 1:18 left in the Class B matchup. BHS had trailed 28-13 early on during the third quarter, but battled back into a tie with two touchdowns by Brock Templar, who also was the intended target of the last-second heave.
Sorensen and Templar connected on a 30-yard touchdown pass during the first quarter, too, while Blaise Baughman notched a 10-yard touchdown run during the second.
Coach Bryan Soukup’s team next hosts Gretna on Friday, Sept. 13.

Pioneers dominate at home
Fort Calhoun coasted at home Friday, producing a 21-0 lead before winning by 36 points against Roncalli.
Kaiden Rodriguez ran for three Pioneer scores, while quarterback Adam Elofson connected on two passing touchdowns to Kade Foy and and Blake Welchert during the first half. TJ DeMilt ran for a touchdown at 28-6, too.
Coach Zach Byrd’s 2-0 football team next hosts Boys Town on Sept. 13 in FCHS' homecoming game.

Arlington moves to 1-1
Coach Troy Schlueter’s Eagles scored first and never looked back Friday at Conestoga. They led 22-0 at halftime and didn’t allow the host Cougars any points until late during the fourth quarter. Dallin Franzluebbers, Ben Flesner and Killian McIntosh all scored touchdowns as AHS ran for 376 yards, while holding the home team to just 15.
“We pressured on defense and ran the ball well on offense,” Schlueter said.
Arlington next competes Sept. 13 against Raymond Central on the road.
