High School Golf Roundup: AHS claims 6th at home tourney

The 2023 Arlington Invite was contested in the rain Friday at Fremont Golf Club.
Golfers were wet and cold.
“It was definitely an experience,” Eagles senior Eddie Rosenthal said, noting it as the worst weather of the season.
“Miserable,” he added. “We were kind of just scrambling around the course.”
The results, though, ended up as some of Arlington's best of the spring. Jacob Meehan and Rosenthal claimed top-10 finishes as coach Landon Walkenhorst's team took sixth out of 13 teams with 379 strokes.
“I'm pretty happy,” Meehan said after 84 swings across 18 holes. “A lot of kids were saying they weren't playing well and I'm like, 'This is the best I've shot all year.'”
The Eagle was fourth overall with a birdie on hole No. 17. He shot par on five more holes, too.
Meehan said fresh towels were key to his round as he tried to keep his hands dry.
“Today, I didn't play with a glove because the glove would just get wet,” he said. “Usually I do, so it was pretty interesting to me.”
The AHS golfer didn't overextend himself in the rain either.
“A lot of kids, they were just trying to swing hard, and they would get a big divot and (the ball) wouldn't get anywhere,” Meehan said. “So, I just tried to swing easy.”
Rosenthal, meanwhile, carded 88 strokes Friday. He was 10th after a tiebreaker.
“Got luck on some shots,” the senior said. “But, it wasn't bad.”
Josh Hamre added 97 Arlington swings, while Stokely Lewis and Cade Podany finished with 110 and 130, respectively.
Omaha Concordia won the tournament, finishing with 342 strokes. Luke Specht of Wahoo was the individual medalist, carding just 77 at Fremont Golf Club.
The AHS Eagles next compete 9 a.m. Thursday during the Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament at Elkhorn Valley Golf Course.
